About this event

This is the final of three Technology Spotlight events organised by Community Energy London exploring routes for community energy groups to deliver 'bigger bolder and more innovative' energy projects.

The first event looked at new market opportunities for community solar PV and the second focused on incorporating smart and flexibility services into community energy projects. This event focuses on opportunities around the provision of low and zero carbon heat to homes and businesses.

Decarbonising Heat through Community Energy will explore technology options for community energy groups such as:

  • Heat pumps
  • Heat Networks
  • Smart storage heating options

The Government has set a target for 600,000 heat pumps to be installed annually by 2028. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides grants up to £5,000 per installation of an air source heat pump (AHSP). As yet - no non domestic heat pump grant for installs above 50kWe is in place.

The new £288m Green Heat Network Fund was introduced earlier this year providing support for district heating schemes, which includes opportunities for community energy groups to work alongside local authorities.

This event will include contributions from:

  • Community energy groups who are already delivering sustainable heat projects
  • Technology providers who will highlight new opportunities for community-scale projects - specifically projects in an urban environment
  • Policy makers to help determine what new mechanisms will be required to boost the uptake of of green projects in the future.
