Up the Energy
A national campaign led by Community Energy England and partners
to unlock the full potential of community energy and ensure everyone can play a part in delivering the UK’s Clean Power mission.
The campaign has two core aims:

Influence
To encourage the UK Government to turn words into action by removing barriers and strengthening support for community energy.

Raise awareness
To increase public awareness of what community energy is and why it is so vital to communities across the country.
OUR CAMPAIGN ASKS
Up the energy with community power
We’re calling on the UK Government to implement the recommendations of the Community Energy State of the Sector 2025 report and to work with us through the Up the Energy campaign to remove barriers, unlock local power, and ensure every community can share in the benefits of clean, affordable energy.
- Fund projects through the Local Power Plan and the Warm Homes Plan
- Guarantee a fair export price for community-generated electricity
- Prioritise community projects in grid connection queues
- Support local supply models, public sector purchasing and shared ownership
- Provide access to public land and rooftop for community energy

Community Energy England and partners are inviting public figures and organisations supportive of community energy to sign this open letter, which will be delivered to the Government in February 2026.
To date, over 100 organisations have signed the letter – huge thanks to national leaders like Ashden, Power to Change, UK100, Community Energy Wales, Regen, Climate Emergency UK, Greenpeace UK, Friends of the Earth, and the Centre for Sustainable Energy for paving the way.
