By the community, for the community

Community Energy England, Community Energy Scotland and Community Energy Wales have come together to highlight community energy at the All-Energy Conference in Glasgow, 13-14 May.

Why community energy?

  • Why work with community energy?

Why Work with Community Energy Organisations? State of the Sector

With the recent publication of the joint GBE/UK Government Local Power Plan, there is increased interest in – and commitment to – community energy at a national level. You can help shape how community energy projects are supported across the country by participating in the annual State of the Sector survey. Please take the time to update us on any community energy projects you’ve recently finished, you’re currently working on, or you’ve got planned. Any information you give us helps drive research to address the needs of the community energy sector across the UK.

Shared Ownership

For communities, shared ownership can generate 30–40 years of income, strengthening local capacity and resilience. For developers, it can help create stable operating environments, reputational value and alignment with just‑transition and net‑zero policy objectives.

Repowering

As many renewables assets across the UK approach end of life, repowering and life extension offer opportunities for community energy to grow, to continue to provide reliable income streams, and for the private sector to support even more communities to take a stake in the energy transition.

Energy Learning Network

The Energy Learning Network (ELN) is a UK-wide programme powering forward community energy projects, helping  more groups to launch or grow their schemes.
