Community Energy England (CEE) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and representing the community energy sector in England. The organisation is governed by a Board of Directors comprising individuals from member organisations and co-opted individuals. The board includes one sub-committee for Finance and Governance.
Role Specification
The role of the Treasurer is to work alongside the Chair, Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer. The Treasurer is expected to:
- Maintain an overview of the organisation’s finances, ensuring that the organisation is operating within its means and within legal frameworks
- Provide oversight of financial risk management and internal controls to ensure long-term sustainability alongside CEE’s mission.
- Chair and/or be a member of the Finance and Governance committee
- Advise on the financial implications of strategic plans, and provide assurance to the board that there are adequate resources to meet the organisation’s present and future needs
- Support the development of the organisation’s financial strategy
- Ensure that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in compliance with Company Law, in the form required by funders and scrutinised in the manner required with any recommendations implemented
- Approve payments to creditors as necessary
- Present the accounts at the AGM
Person Specification
- Some experience of not-for-profit or voluntary sector accounts
- Financial qualifications and experience
- Independent thinker, good judgement and analytical skills
- Willingness to be available to the Executive Team for advice and guidance
- An understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of a treasurer
- A commitment to and willingness to work in accordance to work in accordance with our principles and values
- Ability to translate financial information into accessible language.
