How storage is strengthening clean energy

As more solar and wind projects come online across the UK, one challenge remains: renewable energy is intermittent. The sun doesn’t always shine, and the wind doesn’t always blow.

Battery storage is becoming a vital part of the clean energy transition. It allows surplus renewable electricity to be stored and released when it’s needed most – smoothing peaks and troughs in supply and demand, and reducing waste.

For community energy organisations like Low Carbon Hub, battery storage isn’t just a technical add-on. It’s an opportunity to:

– Maximise the value of community-owned generation
– Reduce wasted clean electricity
– Generate additional income for community benefit
– Strengthen resilience across the energy system

Batteries also play an important role in supporting the wider electricity network. As demand grows – with more electric vehicles, heat pumps and electrification – our grid must adapt. Storage can help make that transition more efficient by making better use of existing infrastructure, reducing pressure on networks.

In this webinar, we’ll explore:

  • The practical and financial benefits of co-locating battery storage with renewables
  • How battery projects can participate in flexibility markets
  • How community investment can unlock battery storage
  • A first look at Low Carbon Hub’s new battery project at Ray Valley Solar, funded through our Community Energy Fund, and how investors can be part of it.

Whether you’re a community energy group, local authority, investor or simply interested in the future of a smarter energy system, this session will provide practical insight into how storage is reshaping renewable energy and how you can be a part of the next phase.
