27 October 2025
North Lincolnshire Community Energy
North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE) has rapidly grown over two years, installing 21 community-owned solar sites – including 14 schools – and generating over 2.7 GWh of clean electricity while saving schools £200,000 and cutting 1,000 tonnes of CO₂. By hiring a local Community Engagement Coordinator and partnering with Energy4All, NLCE combines technical expertise with strong community outreach, running solar roadshows, workshops, and climate cafés that have reached over 1,000 schoolchildren and numerous local residents. Expanding beyond council sites to hospices and sports facilities, they demonstrate how community energy can deliver tangible local benefits while inspiring wider participation. Judges noted NLCE as “exemplary advocates for community energy, embedded within their community and doing good,” highlighting their strong reach, impact, and collaborative approach.
