Erebus Consulting is an independent engineering advisory practice that helps community energy groups establish whether a project is viable and how best to take it forward.

Community energy projects increasingly combine several technologies: generation, storage, heat and flexible demand, often behind a constrained grid connection. Erebus takes a systems engineering approach, assessing how each element interacts with the others and with the network, so that the recommended option performs as a whole rather than as a set of separate parts. This approach is grounded in extensive experience of smart local energy systems, island and weak-grid networks, and complex multi-technology community schemes.

Erebus delivers feasibility studies and options appraisals for solar PV, onshore wind, battery storage, heat pumps and heat networks. Each study covers energy resource and yield, grid connection, site and planning constraints, capital and operating costs, and financial viability. The output sets out the options, the evidence behind each one and a clear recommendation. It is written to support funding bids, including Stage 1 Feasibility and Stage 2 Development applications to the Great British Energy Community Fund, and to give boards and members a sound basis for investment decisions.

Erebus is led by David Linsley-Hood, who has around 20 years' experience in renewable energy engineering, has led technical delivery on dozens of projects across the UK and has served on the boards of several community energy organisations. With no ties to equipment suppliers or installers, Erebus offers impartial advice from early concept to an investment-ready project.
