Summary: Banister House Solar is a Community Benefit Society that owns solar panels on the roofs of the Banister House estate, Homerton, Hackney, London. The solar panels generate an income from selling electricity and from the Feed-in-tariff. Some of this income is used to repay the Society members who invested in the installation of the solar panels, and some of the income is contributed to a community fund. The purpose of this fund is to support the local community in tackling climate change, increasing energy efficiency, decreasing fuel poverty, and for general community support. Banister House Solar is pleased to provide funding to local projects from its community fund. Priority will be given to projects taking place in and around Banister House, in the Homerton area. Projects in Hackney may qualify, depending on the funds available. What will it fund? The grants will be used to benefit projects (events, workshops, courses) rather than to fund organisational core costs, and the community fund will focus on projects with a social purpose, themed around sustainability, green energy, education and/or community resilience.
