Energy Local is a UK not-for-profit social enterprise that helps communities get more value from locally generated renewable electricity by creating Energy Local Clubs, where households and local renewable generators work together. Using smart meter data, the scheme matches electricity use with times when local renewable energy—such as hydro, wind, or solar—is being generated, allowing members to pay a locally agreed tariff that benefits both consumers and generators. This approach helps lower household energy bills, increases income for small-scale renewable producers, keeps more money circulating within the local economy and encourages greater use of clean energy by rewarding demand that aligns with local generation.
