35,000 students reached in 2024 as Solar for Schools hopes to drive behaviour change through energy education

Solar for Schools, a member of CEE since 2020 and the organisation that uses solar as an education tool has recently launched its first Education Impact Report, highlighting some of our headline impacts achieved across 2024.

Solar for Schools using hands-on STEM-based lessons and workshops to bring solar and renewable energy to life. One example is the use of real-time data from the solar system on each school rooftop so students from within that school can see for themselves renewable energy in action, as it happens.

Thanks to a growing network of national educators, the education programme that Solar for Schools runs helps schools to embed sustainability into the curriculum to drive behaviour change. This is not just true of the pupils inside the schools but for the wider school communities too, empowering more individuals to make positive changes for the planet.

"The energy transition should take place in people’s minds, not just on roofs and in fields"

Explains Wendy Litherland, Head of Education at Solar for Schools

It's one of Solar for Schools’ missions to ensure every child in the UK can understand where their energy comes from, how energy is measured, and in 2024 the team delivered 386 interactive workshops to nearly 35,000 students across the UK.

Beyond the education work, Solar for Schools has also made some progress with engaging  policymakers. Following a Parliamentary showcase event in November 2024, over 30 MPs are actively working with the organisation to help overcome the barriers of getting more solar onto school rooftops, and thus speeding up the transition to net-zero across their constituencies.
