2018: The Year of Energised Communities

We cannot believe the Community Energy Fortnight 2018 is over. What a blur it has been since it launched on 23 June at the Community Energy Conference in Manchester. CEF18 was the UK’s sixth Community Energy Fortnight and the largest and most inclusive and diverse of them all.

It has been inspiring to see such a huge response to the CEF18. You have been part of a record-breaking year, with 162 events - from community hydro open days to energy & circuits sessions for children, and from webinars on electric vehicles to DIY solar sound systems workshops - having taken place across the UK and Europe.

By organising events and showcasing the benefits of community energy, we are igniting an energy revolution which places communities at its heart and strives for a clean, affordable and secure energy system for all. The events might have been disparate, but our message was united: when people come together to tackle energy issues, a multitude of charitable and sustainable development objectives can be achieved.

Community Energy Fortnight is an initiative of the UK Community Energy Coalition and a  platform to showcase inspiring examples of communities who are ensuring that people are kept at the heart of the energy transition. The Fortnight highlighted the power and drive of community energy practitioners and supporters, even through tough conditions.

Thank you so much for all your enthusiasm and for helping us celebrate the energised communities who are generating and saving energy, fighting fuel poverty, improving their local environment, reducing carbon emissions and innovating the energy system.

Our special thanks go to our principal supporter, Co-op Energy, who have shown their commitment to the community energy sector for the sixth year by generously sponsoring and supporting both CEF18 and the Community Energy Conference.

CEF18 is over, but there are still plenty of great events that you can get involved with over the summer and autumn. Check them out on the Community Energy Hub.
