National Grid Electricity Distribution provides the power to millions of homes and businesses in East and West Midlands, South West and Wales. We operate and maintain the electricity distribution network covering this area, including overhead lines, underground cables and substations.

At National Grid, our vision is to be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future. Local communities play a crucial role in our transition to renewable energy, demand reduction, and innovative energy supply projects.

As the UK Energy System’s 2030 net zero target draws closer, it’s incumbent on us to play our part in enabling community groups to fulfil their green ambitions.  We want to work with them to understand their challenges, so that we can support them, ensuring no one gets left behind.

As we reshape our approach to community energy, we welcome input from the community energy sector to help us identify and remove barriers that may impact our ability to connect community projects to our distribution network. At the same time, we’re working hard on delivering planning and connections reform to make the whole process quicker and easier for community groups.

If you would like to know more, please keep a look out for our Community Energy events, which will be published on our Engagement page.
